I've never seen anything like that.  I guess you must have all the
appropriate modules loaded, since it's trying to do something...

The only thing I can think of to try is (re)compile the *latest*
version of cdrecord with the kernel you are running.  That fixed a
problem I was having once...  (If that doesn't work, I'm at a complete
loss.)
