Re: Rant re: SnapNames.com



Actually this brings up an interesting topic ...

Domains ... and DNS in general.

That status-quo        = ICANN + BIND ...
The open alternative = OpenNIC + DJBDNS

 What annoys me is that certain registrars (namely namezero.com) can hold on
to a domain (ex. suppafly.org expired in Sep of 2001)

BIND while being open-source definantelly isn't the only option ...
personally I use DJBDNS ...

Also there is the wonderful www.opennic  or http://www.opennic.unrated.net/
which is an open root DNS system that is free by all counts ... and a great
DNS learning experience...

I would really like to know when domains actually are available to
re-register after expiring ... I mean it's been 4 months since suppafly.org
expired ...
