Yup. 24, 16, 8, and 4x. All failed on the read-back md5sum check.
I don't know if you saw my later post, but they burned verified at 24x 
using xcdroast. I'm inclined to think that it is something with SuSE 8.1's 
version of KonCD. I'm not familiar enough with cdrecord's options to figure out 
what pregap, etc. I need. And since xcdroast uses cdrecord, I thought KonCD did 
also. Maybe not.

And you trust what? Tape? At least CD-R media will outlast magnetic media.

Nope. md5sum verified on the ISO before I started to burn disks.

It may well be specific to SuSE 8.1's KonCD (and MDK 9.1's KonCD burns
'em just fine).
