Re: Samba Question

A quick note. I am not sure I can answer your question, but, we are
going to have a Linux Demo/Installfest tomorrow in Peoria. One of the
things we will be doing is a demo of "Simple" file sharing between
Windows and Linux wiht SAMBA.If I can't answer your questions, maybe
someone else in attendence can.

Directions can be found here:

www2.lugop.org/Computer-Deli.html.

We would love for anyone from LUCI to pop up and meet/greet/lend a
hand??

Now Tim,

What authentication mode are you using? User, Share, Server, Domain, or
ADS?

I have only really messed with SHARE level, but have found XP handles
things differently from 2000.

With 2000, when I try to connect to a share that does not belong to the
Windows user, I am prompted for both the USerName and password.

But with XP, it seems to gray o
ut the user name (set to "Guest").
But if I go ahead and enter the password for the user/share I want to
connect to, it allows the connection.

Is this somewhat like the problem you are haveing?

Hope this helps and maybe we can see you on Saturday.
