Don't get me wrong...  You know I'm a big fan of "use what works".  I
wouldn't want you to scrap everything and start over just because I
think the author of a program is a nut.  :-)  (Otherwise Gary would
have to dump all that djb stuff he keeps using.  ;)

If you are reworking things anyway though, I think there are some
clear advantages to the Postfix/amavisd-new/clamd combination when
taken as a whole.  For example:

  * Maildir (scales up nicely for big mail folders and plays nicely
    with IMAP)
  * Ability to block/allow mail based on regular expressions
  * Holds up well under high load
  * amavisd-new will fall back to running clamscan if clamd becomes
    unavailable

(I'm sure there's more, but that's all that's coming to mind at the
moment.)

And I'll freely admit that I'm still running sendmail on most of my
systems.  There's no clear benefit to go through the pain of changing
legacy stuff that isn't handing any significant amount of email.
