ncurses! foiled again!

has anyone out there ran sniffit on a linux box yet?
i am getting some odd compile errors.
i am *fairly* certain that I have ncurses on my machine, and during the
./configure, it appears that its found as installed. however, when i
go to make, i get:

gcc -w -O2 -c  sn_packets.c -I./libpcap -L./libpcap -DHAVE_LIBNCURSES=1

i am just not familiar enough with what unctrl.h would be, where it should
be. 

suggestions?
