I believe, on Red Hat (& clones), that /usr/X11R6/bin/X is a symlink
to the current server, or it's a symlink to a symlink to the current
server.  (You might look in /etc/X11 to see if it's there.)  On
Debian, the path to the current X server is stored in
/etc/X11/Xserver.
