Re: AOL in Negotiations to Buy Red Hat

i'm not sure how to approach the idea of aol purchasing redhat. it could
be said that linux may benefit from the aol mantra of "a cd in every
household". at the very least, "redhat" may get some exposure where it had
not before. bundle in netscape and soffice which are already on the aol
payroll, and maybe you've got something that could become a rival to
windows or at least appeal to the fringe user sick of redmond.

as far as the "server" side of the os. well, i can only hope that aol
leaves that development team alone. in the end though, linus owns the
kernel, so unless there is some serious mucking, compatibility shouldnt be
an issue. and again, linux in more hands, may mean more support from
vendors.

of course, this paints a pretty picture on paper, er..ascii. between the
idea and the product, who knows what could happen. in the end, we'll just
have to wait.
