I did it as an experiment on a 486 repair a couple weeks ago.
You can fit X windows, but selection of X-specific applications
gets to be shoehorning, and RAM requirements become more of a 
concern.  Without X, you've got plenty of space.  I'd can't
offer yet the master list of all packages for a strictly terminal
environment, but something I'd like done, and would welcome
anyone's help getting it together...

BTW ever'body, said goodbye to Caldera, to favor of SuSE 5.3.
Whadya know, some of the packages Caldera provided, I now learn,
were actually designed to operate!  :}
