when you ping, are you doing so by ip address or by hostname?
also, if you are pinging via ip address, have you tried bringing up a web
page by its ip address rather than dns entry?
also, when you have your isp's dns server listed within your
/etc/resolv.conf file, try running nslookup and see if you get a response.
