configure apt-get to ignore packages

Hello,
I recently installed an RPM manually that required dependencies that are
not installed on the machine via RPM. As a result apt-get complains. I
added an entry in /etc/apt.conf to hopefully ignore the package:

RPM {
    Ignore {"^squirrelmail"; "^http"; "^php"; };

However, I still have apt-get complaining. I am using
apt-0.5.5cnc5-fr0.rh73.2. Is this an incorrect are to configure this
option?
