Travis,

First as far as your posting problem, it sounds like you might not have the 
CPU jumpers set right.  Double check the bus speed and voltages.  Another 
thing that you can check is the RAM.  Sometimes the RAM won't seat all the 
way and you'll need to reinsert it.

In reference to the thermal grease, yes you should have either thermal grease 
or thermal tape between the processor and the heat sink so that the heat 
properly dissapates from the CPU.
